Today- on election
-New Zealanders cast their vote in their General Election, which is held once every 3 yrs
-I drove to Canter lib in city.. didn’t really see signs of ‘election day atmosphere’ as what I usually see in M’sian election day. .. no roadside booths with ‘perayu undi’ (what do you call them in English? Vote pleaders?), no overzealous fanatics 'fighting' outside polling centres.
-the only sign that shows today IS the election day are the arrows with the sign ‘polling centre’ at almost every kilometer
-things went on as any normal Saturdays here. Rugby match is on as usual. Canterbury is beating against Waikato tonight.
- National Party led the count at first... then Labour party slowly closed the gaps and took over the lead- by the time I’m writing this, the two main parties only have a difference of 1.2% votes
-A ‘Sept-11- pilot-wannabe' stole a plane and threatened to crash into Auckland tower.. and end up crashing into the sea… may be he just planned to get the attention away from the heated vote count
Now I’m sitting in front of the TV following the latest update on the election results. Hek ele.. macam aku pulak yang mengundi... hehe.. lepas gian.. I’ve voted twice in Malaysia.. but on both occasions I did not get to follow the results update. I spent both 'vote counting nights' on the bus back to Penang…got to know the final results by the time I arrive in Penang next morning which made me say either a ‘yeay!’ or grumble ‘hmm..penat jer aku balik’.
For the past 10-15 minutes the camera is focusing on Helen Clark’s house gate. There was NOTHING to see there except some beautiful woodwork at the porch that caught my attention.. Helen is nowhere in sight.. hello mr cameraman, go shoot something more interesting la!.. oh.. ok finally Helen is out of the house.. and went straight to the Labour Headquarter.
I adore Helen Clark, she’s smart, and proven to be a good manager... so if I'm eligible to vote here, she gets mine.
On FOOD
I was craving for masak asam.. I've never cook masak asam before, but I know it will taste better if you have bunga kantan (torch ginger) in it. I think I've seen it once here but couldn't remember in which shop... went to 5 asian shops looking for it, got tired of explaining what torch ginger is to the shopowners. Some showed me somekind of flour when I told them it is a flower. So I end up without bunga kantan but went home with a bag full of greens & a packet of 'thai fish satay'. My masak asam still taste good without the bunga kantan. Thanks to maggi hari-hari favourite!
