When the earth rattles...

Part of me is grateful that I no longer live in Canterbury, NZ (but I miss the place so much). At the same time I'm so worried thinking of friends and everyone there. A 6.5 earthquake rumbled Christchurch  (again!) yesterday around lunchtime there, where people are out an about in the city. Alhamdulillah, the friends I get to contact are all safe but they have to endure countless aftershocks. Death toll in Christchurch so far is 75 and counting. It breaks my heart to see the city I love crumbled. Please pray for them. May God be gentle to them.

I remember back then, just within an hour after my 1st registration at my previous university there, the department secretary brought me to meet a technician who was also one of the safety staff there. Evert, the handsome technician first and foremost told me that NZ is within an earthquake zone, and if anything should happen, or in the event of fire, these are the steps I should take... yada yada yada.. a long list of things there. I never really thought it was THAT important (although i admit i was impressed that they really take safety very seriously). Now I know why. Things can happen and we just don't know when.

My first hiking shoes, LaSportiva Typhoon GTX. Kawan saya kata macam nama kereta. Saya baru nak kenal apa itu waterproof anfibio leather & Impact Brake System outsole, ingatkan kereta aje ada braking system! Kasut pun ada ghopernyer.

Tepi Laut China Selatan

Pagi itu, langit mendung... mentari pagi bersembunyi di balik awan kelabu. Suram... 

Sang ombak menghempas kuat ke pantai...

 

...dan kulihat dia duduk di situ, mengalunkan bacaan Yasin, menghadap ke laut lepas yang ganas. 

(Saya tak tahu siapa dia)

...dan kami, dua sahabat, terus melangkah meninggalkan jejak-jejak di pasir, menghirup angin Laut China Selatan 

(dan mengharap adalah sedikit lemak dibakar)

...dan sekali lagi, saya tinggalkan Laut China Selatan, kembali ke Selat Melaka yang sepoi anginnya kurang menggamit jiwa saya.

Ally loved Billy since they were both kids.
Ally really thought she would grow old with him.
But they separated.
Billy married Georgia. 
Then Billy died.
Ally was devastated.
I cried watching them.

Sometimes, I wished you'd be like Billy, dead.
But you're not, you're alive, and just seeing your name suddenly resurfaced on "friend request" actually haunts me.
How could you be haunting when you're not dead?
