Juke box

I need songs when I drive or just happen to be in a moving car. If I were to be in a car with malfunctioned radio (like that white honda parked next to mine, hehehe... tuan dia jgn marah ye!), I would either sing loudly (usually in duet, trio or chorus) or just hum to myself. Can't live without music!

Here's one of the songs that puts me in a good mood when I drive. For weeks I thought it was either Duffy or Gabriella Cilmi. Finally today I found out it's Gin Wigmore's. Go ahead, listen to it (I don't fancy the video but I can't find any audio track).

a visitor, we didn't know hedgehogs are insectivors!

I ate hedgehogs for dinner! heheheheh... nahhh...not that lil cutie up there. I ate fake hedgehogs at a vegetarian restaurant in a dish call Hotplate Hedgehogs (no photo, forgot my camera). Yummeh!.. though at one time I almost stopped eating thinking what if they're real hedgehogs?

Thank you for the music

If you love songs by ABBA, go watch MAMMA MIA! A must see!

I watched it yesterday. I enjoyed the movie, mainly for the songs and beautiful Greek island and Meryl Streep!!! She's super duper energetic for a 59 yr old! I tried hard not to sing along out loud to the songs (if anyone in the cinema started to sing aloud, I WOULD join them! dancing along would be great too!). One thing though, I think Pierce Brosnan should just stick to 'acting only' not 'acting with singing part'.

In the middle of the movie I found myself wishing that my sisters were there too, for they introduced me to ABBA through their collection of posters, vinyl and cassettes in late 70's and early 80's when they were in their late teens. I was just a follower, hummed along to whatever they listened to back then. My sisters were quite fashionable those days, with 70's clothes & hairstyle. Things have changed a lot over the years.

I talked to my 16 yr old niece on the phone later at midnight and I laughed out loud when I heard that my 2nd sister does not allow her teenage daughter to wear jeans when she goes out! My niece kept whining that it's unfair that I could wear jeans like it's my uniform and I have motorbike license when her mom would not even allow her to learn to ride a motorbike. Haha... honey, I'm not your mother. Well, I told my niece 'I'm not gonna say anything about the rules, just obey your mom, ok... but when I get home I'll take you out to buy a nice pair of jeans. Just make sure you do good in school'. Hmmm.... I think I should stop making promises to my nieces and nephews just to make them feel better, I have 23 of them, nak mati kalau buat janji to each one of them. Boleh bankrap!

of surprises

When I already made plans for my weekend, I'd look forward to it. If I plan to go somewhere, I'd have the mental picture of what I want to do there, what photo I'd capture once I get there. If I plan to go eat certain food somewhere, I'd already have the preconceived taste lingering in my mind and my tastebuds would all be hyped up and ready to savor. I'd get uber disappointed if the plan changed or cancelled, but most of the time I just suck it up. Truth is I'm the type that gets very kempunan if I don't get what I want.

Me and flatmates already planned to go and have lunch at an Afghan outlet. I already imagined the taste of nasi Afghan, rice steamed to perfection together with tender and juicy chicken, yumness! Then we would go to CupCafe on Cashmere Hill, for someone was supposed to buy me a coffee there and I wanted to be there for the view on a fine sunny Sunday. So, when my flatmates requested that we go to another friend's house first before we go out, I was very irritated. Orang dah start kereta, lu masuk kereta la, lu nak gi mana lagi? Haiya... didn't they know already that I'd be 10x grumpier during that time of the month?

Altho very cranky, I gave in. I turned off the car and and followed them. There at the friend's house I was greeted with confetti popper, it was a surprise bbq farewell party for me. I'm not good at taking surprises, you see. It took me a while to get rid of my grumpiness. To everyone who put so much effort for the party, I'm sorry for being rather grouchy at first. Tu la, lain kali korang jangan buat janji palsu sama gue, nanti gue ngamuk!

After I got myself into the right mood, it was really a fun-filled afternoon, with good company and good food. Thanks heaps! gue terharu beb.

I'll miss y'all too!

I guess the uppermost fun part for them (not for me!) was when I got duped into believing that we were going to play an intergroup game. Truth was I became the human target for more than 50 water balloons. Totally off-guard. I was soaked to the bone! korang jahattttttt! Takperrrr bagi chance la kan, budak-budak...(most of them are the young ones, I was among the very few 70's baby).

I got hit by about 50 of this!

Getting drenched with cold water on a winter afternoon ain't that good. My nose are now runny. My headache is killing me too. Lets just hope this headache tablets I'm taking will help me sleep better. Nitey!

Makan Fridays

I love telur ikan, I'd look for telur ikan if they have it on the spread for nasi kandar or nasi campur stalls. So when I saw a small pack of salmon caviar at a 'reduced to clear' shelf at Pak n' Save, in an impulse it got into my shopping bag. I've never tried salmon roe before, so I needed to try that. Truth was that I did not know what to with it. I googled for recipe but found nothing much other than putting it on some teeny weeny bite for hors d'œuvre or some other super lavish food. Susah-susah sangat, buat sushi aje lah. Besides I have all the sushi making stuff that I've been keeping for so long. Biasalah, I always have the intention to make/bake/cook this and that but selalu tak terbuat, beli ingredients then simpan buat harta karun. I wanted to make salmon roe sushi but I thought first time roe eaters would find the taste too strong/fishy so I combined it with other stuff. Here, I made tak-tau-nama sushi, filled with tuna mayo+ salmon caviar + capsicum + carrot. I also had to make tuna only version because PuppetMaster refused to try the caviar. Babe, rugi la lu tak try, sedap beb!

On top of that, I'm not feeling well. Lymph nodes behind my ears are swollen, tekak dah start sakit and I've been scratching like a chimp since the past few days because I got bitten by bugs that I couldn't even see. Gatal!

Taktido di bumi Kiwi

It's a quarter past 4am. This time I dah tidur kejap. I tried to sleep early, dozed off at half past 10 (in my book, 10.30pm tu awal gila ok) but I woke up half past 1 and couldn't get back to sleep. So here I am, updating.

with my crazy sleeping pattern, my eyes look similar to this

Just a recap of the last few days:

Friday

Started the day by saying farewell to a friend & her family at the Chch airport. I couldn't force myself to sleep so I end up not sleeping the whole night and hoping not to fall asleep while driving to the airport.

My tenancy period in the flat ended on Friday. I was feeling tad sad as I removed my things off the softboard in the room. It was fully posted with my cherished stuff, some postcards from Europe, Aussie & Antarctica, a muffler with All Blacks signatures, AB's promo card, a coffee advert, a skydiving brochure, half-year planner, some earrings that I've never worn, necklaces, some souvenir key-chains from friends, my makeover photo (which served as a reminder to myself that I could look good if I get dolled up once in a while), photos of my nieces & nephews, bits and pieces of notes to myself: all formed into a combination that looked bersepah to some. That, defined my space. Taking them off the wall marked that the space was no longer mine.

I am now officially a setinggan.

A friend asked me on the phone on Friday, what's for my Makan Fridays, so here, posted late for my Makan Fridays - simple but YUM red cod porridge.

Saturday

I tried to sell some of my used items. Bad weather meant people hardly walk around but I managed to sell some of the junks. It was damn cold. By noon, it was snowing but not thick enough for us to enjoy it. I decided to pay some 'sleep debt' on my couch while watching the snow flurries.

It was followed by heavy rain throughout the day and night. I braved through the pouring rain and flooded roads to have dinner with a friend. This time it's Japanese! double yum!

Sunday
Joined friends to Sunday market, only to find that it was closed due to the weather *sigh*. It was sunny but the field could be soggy due to saturday's downpour. Detoured to the city to get a few things and of course, coffee.

So how did you spend your weekend?
